Multicast – BSR

One of the things I have found hard to remember is the crazy way BSR chooses it BSR and RP, if it’s higher or lower and for which.

So below is a table of how its chosen

BSR Type Priority IP Address
RP Candidate Selection Lower Higher
BSR Election Higher Higher

For the BSR election its chosen based on the Higher Priority and in a tie then Higher IP chosen. For the RP election its chosen based on the Lower Priority and in a tie then Higher IP.

So RP lower priority everything else higher.
